The Pillow Case Dress :o)

After making an outfit for Peanut to wear in my brothers wedding (that girl REFUSES to wear a dress {sigh}) I got bit by the creating bug :o) So I decided to sew a pillow case dress for Munchkin.

It was super easy. And I thought the heart applique made it a little more "fun".

Then I decided to make a pillow case dress for Bits.

* Disclaimer - Getting my 1yo monkey to stay still long enough for a picture is virtually impossible! So I apologize in advance for the poor quality pictures :o)

I did bring the sides in a little on hers. I was afraid it would look too much like she was wearing a bag if I didn't, lol. I also added a ruffled "pocket" to the front. I then threaded a ribbon through the pocket and it ties in the back.

I was still feeling creative so I decided to make another dress for Bits.

I made the bodice out of a pillow case and then the skirt is the skirt off an old bedskirt!

I'm also contemplating making another, more elaborate dress for Munchkin. It's a little more involved though, so I'm a little nervous not having a pattern! It will be made from scraps and such I have laying around.........Which I probably wont use for anything else........So I probably should just go for it. There, I talked myself into it ;-) I'll keep you updated on how it goes!

Munchkin's Birthday Gift

So, I'm rather tired this evening. Why, you ask? Because I have spent most of this week up late working on Munchkin's birthday gift. But I think it turned out pretty good and I was very excited to give it to her this weekend! I used the pattern I found HERE. It was pretty easy, the most complicated part was the face (I can't embroider to save my life, lol). Oh, and putting it together took a few tries, but once I figured out the arms, the legs were pretty easy. So here are some pictures:

I also used some leftover material from my stash to make her some necessities!

A changing pad.

A couple of diapers (using the pattern found at the above site).

And a small diaper bag.

The doll is approximately the same size as a newborn, so I also included a few outfits, hats and a blanket that Bits has outgrown. So far she loves it! So, for not very much money, I was able to create a beautiful birthday gift that will hopefully last for many years!

Blog Hop - Curriculum

Life With My 3 Boybarians is hosting a blog hop this month on "not back to school". This weeks topic is curriculum. And since I haven't gotten around to posting about this year yet, I figured I'd participate :o)

Munchkin will be a 3rd grader (yikes!) this year. Our spine will be My Fathers World and we will be using Exploring Countries and Cultures which is the first year in their 5 year cycle.

This is what the MFW website says about ECC: "Take a trip around the world and explore diverse countries while learning geography and being challenged by true stories of missionaries." There are also several other families in our homeschool group who will be using this program so we will get to do activies with them. We are very excited about this year!

MFW covers Bible, History, Geography, Science, Art and Music. So for the other subjects:

Language Arts: We will be continuing with Queen Homeschool's Language Lessons for the Very Young Volume 1.

Spelling: We will be switching to Spell to Read and Write. I still have to do some planning for this, so I'm not 100% sure how I'm going to incorporate it.

Math: We will be continuing with Math U See going into the Beta program.

We still don't have a foreign language yet, but I've been meaning to look into Latina Christiana. If anyone uses/has used this, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Peanut is still a preschooler :o) She really wants to learn to read, but I'm not sure she's really ready for anything formal. I have the MFW preschool package, so we'll be using that. I'll probably throw in some tot books and maybe a unit or two from Before Five in a Row. And I will probably spend some time working on reading with her and see how that goes. Other than that, nothing real formal with her this year!

Little P is at the difficult toddler stage, lol. With him, I will mostly be focusing on keeping him occupied so I can work with his sisters. I'm not 100% sure how I will accomplish this, but I'm working on it. I will probably set aside a few toys that are for "school time only" and I'll probably get him is own set of color crayons and paper so he has his own "supplies". I'm also going to look into making one of those "indoor sandboxes" that I've seen various places on the internet. If anyone has idea's they'd like to share on how to keep an active toddler boy happy during school time, I'm all ears (or eyes as the case may be, lol).

I also am hoping to have our routine firmly in place before the new baby makes his or her arival in January. I have a longer than normal recovery period, so I'm hoping if we are already going smoothly, then things can continue without too much stress on me :o) Otherwise, we may need to school over the summer!

It's amazing what they can acomplish.....

.......When you let them have free rein. Yesterday Munchkin asked if she could get out her sewing machine. I told her she could but that I didn't have time to sit down and help her right then. She said that was OK and came back with a scrap of fabric and said she was going to make a shirt for Peanut with it. I told her that was a great idea, but remined her that I couldn't help her with it right now, she would have to do it by herself. Apparently determination can get you pretty far! This is how it turned out.

Not bad when you consider this is really the first thing she has sewn, other than just sewing scraps together!
